WASHINGTON, DC, January 18, 2013 — The right to own a gun epitomizes America’s founding philosophy. All rights belong to the people unless they explicitly and voluntarily give a right to government. Laws disarming honest citizens proclaim that the government is the master, not the servant, of the people, wrote Jeffery Snyder, author of Nation of Cowards. 

Are you prepared to give the government your right to gun ownership? The question is not do you have or want a gun. Do you want someone in the government to determine what rights to give and to take away?

Many laws already exist to keep crazy people, criminals and children from owning guns. You have already given the government the right to regulate that only sane, law-abiding adults can own a gun.

Hard evidence exists that where gun rights are restricted crime increases. Snyder says that an ability to own guns is the best sign that government is operating under the consent of the governed. The possession of guns is the best deterrent to crime and government excesses. 

If you agree to let the government take guns away from law-abiding adults, you are telling the government to be your parent for life. It is no different from being a slave. Someone else says what you can and cannot do. 

History reveals that socialism and communism require disarming citizens as a step toward taking away the kinds of freedom America is based on. 

To those who would bring up the Second Amendment’s “right to bear arms,” Joe Biden and Barack Obama say: 

“We’re going to take this fight to the halls of Congress, Biden said to the nation’s mayors. “We’re going to take it beyond that. We’re going to take it to the American people. We’re going to go around the country making our case and we’re going to let the voices, the voices of the American people be heard.” 

"Those who oppose any common-sense gun control or gun-safety measures have a pretty effective way of ginning up fear on the part of gun owners that, somehow, the federal government's about to take all your guns away," Obama said. 

"And you know, there's probably an economic element to that. It obviously is good for business." 

The implication is that only government-hating rubes question the wisdom of focusing all executive and legislative action on further restricting gun ownership and banning high capacity firearms.

Today in Great Britain, legally owning a “firearm” or “shotgun” of any kind is highly regulated. Handguns are illegal. Anyone convicted of a criminal offence, cannot “handle, possess, or shoot a firearm and ammunition.”

All surplus police service weapons, all firearms collected or confiscated from the population are destroyed per a “confidential” 2000 document. No weapon may be made available to the second-hand market in the UK or abroad.

The homicide rate in England and Wales has averaged 52% higher since the outset of a 1968 gun control law and 15% higher since the outset of a 1997 handgun ban than before their implementation.

Washington, DC

Gun Control – Just Facts reports that, “In 1976, the Washington, D.C. City Council passed a law generally prohibiting residents from possessing handguns and requiring that all firearms in private homes be (1) kept unloaded and (2) rendered temporally inoperable via disassembly or installation of a trigger lock.

During the years in which the D.C. handgun ban and trigger lock law was in effect, the Washington, D.C. murder rate averaged 73% higher than it was at the outset of the law, while the U.S. murder rate averaged 11% lower.

On June 26, 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-4 ruling, struck down this law as unconstitutional.”

Florida

Gun Control – Just Facts reports that, “In 1987, Florida implemented a right-to-carry law requiring licensees to be 21 years of age or older, have clean criminal/mental health records, and complete a firearms safety/training course.

As of July 31, 2010, roughly 5.4% of the state's population, that is 21 years of age or older has obtained permission to own a firearm.

Since the outset of the Florida right-to-carry law, the Florida murder rate has averaged 36% lower than it was before the law took effect, while the U.S. murder rate has averaged 15% lower.”

Similar evidence of crime decreasing when right-to-carry laws are implemented can be found in Texas and Michigan. Conversely, increased gun violence can be found in places like Chicago where gun laws have been strict.

Many American’s do not appear to understand that the United States already restricts some from owning weapons. According to18 USC § 922(g) & (n), felons, drug users or addicts, aliens, fugitives, and dishonorably discharged veterans cannot possess firearms or ammunition. Statistics don’t eliminate the need to consider tougher gun laws but they should influence a broadening of the discussion to look at other factors and offer executive and legislative solutions such as video games and the mentally ill.

Is it crazy to talk about history?

Jim Noorlander, Thomas Jefferson Center for Constitutional Restoration, writes, “Socialism manifests itself in many ways, but primarily begins when you remove personal responsibility and accountability from the lives of the citizens.”

Gun ownership implies a huge personal responsibility. However, if that responsibility is taken away by our government in any form, we cease to operate under the American system of government articulated in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Stanislav Mishin, Russian writer, tells Americans to “never give up your guns.”

Moscow fell to communism partially because the Soviets promised to let the military officers and others in power keep their guns if they would stay out of the way when they took over. After the Soviets got power, their positions evolved. They asked the elite to come register themselves and their weapons. They were all shot dead.

Why would freedom loving Americans not trust Obama’s words?

Obama claims his administration has not infringed on gun rights and would continue to uphold the rights of responsible gun owners. He said, "People who have a gun for protection, for hunting, for sportsmanship. They don't have anything to worry about."

Yet, a cursory look at the people Obama has placed in his administration reveals a philosophy very different from his words.  Obama has:

John Holdren as his Science Czar.  Holdren believes in forced abortions and mass sterilizations.

Cass Sunstein as his Regulatory Czar.  Sunstein believes in allowing animals to be represented in court, while banning all hunting.

Kevin Jennings, a homosexual and organizer of a group called Gay, Lesbian, Straight, Education Network as the Safe School Czar.

Mark Lloyd as Diversity Czar.  Lloyd believes in curtailing free speech and is a supporter of Venezuelan dictator, Hugo Chavez.

Valerie Jarrett, an avowed Socialist, as his Senior White House Advisor.

Anita Dunn as former White House Communications Director, until she told some kids that Mao Tse Tung was her favorite philosopher and the person she turned to most for inspiration.

Carol Browner, a well-known socialist, as the Global Warming Czar working on Cap and Trade.

Van Jones, an ex-con and avowed Communist, as Green Energy Czar before a Jeremiah Wright-like video of Jones speaking about his plans surfaced.

Sold-out American allies Poland and the Czech Republic by cancelling a deal to build interceptor sites and radar that would protect them from ballistic missiles.

Taken the entire American health care system and begun to place it under government control.

Maybe we are just being paranoid, but it never hurts to question.
